Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) is a single-sign-on (SSO) solution by Microsoft that gives users authenticated access to applications that aren’t capable of using Integrated Windows Authentication. ADFS gives users authenticated access to applications that aren’t capable of using Integrated Windows Authentication though Active Directory.

It’s aim is to provide flexibility so organisations have the ability to manage employee accounts with ease. This means employees only need to remember a single set of credentials in order to access multiple applications.
