Worked Example in this course (if you haven't already).

Applying Templates to Products

Once you have created your Project template (Ticket that is a project with project hierarchy set to "Project"), you will want to create a Product and link the template to the Product in question.

This is achieved via selecting the relevant 'Project Template' in the dropdown present on the Product details tab:

Fig 1. The Sales Order will also be linked to the Project.

Adding additional Sales Order lines to a Project

Once you have created the project from a sales order line, you can add additional sales order lines to this project, even if the products are not associated to a project template. Useful when issuing hardware for the project.

To be able to do this first head to Configuration > Sales Orders and set the setting 'Projects to show when linking Sales Order lines' to be 'Show All of the customer Projects and Tasks'.

Fig 3. Projects to show when linking Sales Order lines

Now, against the sales order line you will see the button 'Add to Project' when used you will be prompted to select the project you would like this line added to. Once added the product will be visible under the project's 'products' tab.

You can also use this functionality to add a budget to a project.

When adding sales order lines to existing projects you will be able to add lines to any tickets linked to (created from) the sales order.

Adding Milestones to projects from a Sales Order

If you have applied a project template to a product this will create a project in line with the template. To have milestones be created against the project on creation this can be done using the template.

First you will need to ensure the ticket type that the template is creating (project) has milestones enabled. This can be found under the Settings tab of the ticket type.

Now under the ticket template for the project you will see the 'Milestones' tab. Here you can create milestones that will be made under the project on creation, each milestone will need to be associated with a child ticket template.

Fig 4. Applying Milestones to ticket template

If you are then adding additional sales order lines onto this project the milestones will be matched using their name. For example, we add another sales order line to the project, and this sales order has a project template assigned to it (with milestones on). If the names of the milestones on the template match the existing milestones on the project the child templates associated with the milestones will merge with the existing milestones. Both the child template and the dependencies will be added to the existing milestone. If the names do not match a new milestone will be made and added to the project.

Adding Budgets to Projects

You can also add budgets to Projects directly from Sales Orders. The intention of this function is to map the hours sold to the budgeted hours on the subsequently created Project.

Budgets can be linked to Products via the details tab for a product in question:

Fig 5.
